POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Vice President for Community-Based Clinical Education (AVP-CBCE) establishes, maintains, manages, and evaluates partnerships between the university and community-based clinical education sites and supervisors to provide clinical education opportunities for student intern clinical training. The AVP of the community-based clinical education (CBCE) program develops, implements, and manages clinic outreach opportunities, including recruitment and management of CBCE site and supervisors. The AVP collaborates with program deans and directors to advance experiential learning, ensure successful achievement of student outcomes, and assure compliance with university policies and accreditation standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Community-Based Clinical Education (70%)
Act as the primary liaison between the University of Western States and community-based supervisors and their respective sites.
Assume primary responsibility for the development and implementation of a student placement database including a standard utilization process across clinical programs.
Recruit qualified CBCE site and supervisors; build positive relationships that facilitate two-way communication and feedback.
Coordinate the assignment of interns to community-based clinical education supervisors at their respective sites.
Complete final approval of CBCE supervisors.
Execute and manage CBCE contracting process by coordinating with deans and program directions.
Oversee and assure quality control and compliance for CBCE supervisors to ensure they are fulfilling contract requirements and meeting UWS standards.
Provide support, guidance, and feedback to CBCE supervisors.
Conduct compliance reviews of CBCE practices to assure alignment with UWS policies.
Collaborate with deans and program directors to ensure CBCE student experiences comply with programmatic accreditation standards.
Assist in the development, implementation, and revision of materials supporting the CBCE programs.
Partner with deans and program directors to prepare and manage schedules for intern assignments to CBCE sites.
Maintain records relative to clinical and educational responsibilities in accordance with applicable university, regulatory, and legal requirements.
Create processes and procedures to review and evaluate CBCE sites systematically and periodically.
Facilitate the management of contracts/agreements with CBCE sites; work with university leadership and legal counsel to revise contracts/agreements, as appropriate
Intern Education and Assessment (20%)
Facilitate educational opportunities for interns as required for success at CBCE sites.
Provide assistance for the review and approval of clinical documentation related to patient care services in written and/or electronic formats as required for CBCE training when needed.
Participate in divisional/institutional meetings, workshops and training sessions as required.
Assist with the clinical entrance assessment and clinical skills assessment, as needed.
Create and administer trainings, resources, and supports for CBCE sites and associated supervisors.
Create processes and protocols to ensure calibration of assessments between and among CBCE sites and associated supervisors.
Management and Supervisory Functions (10%)
Supervise staff members in the office of community-based clinical education.
Oversee all activities relating to direct reports.
Develop and implement departmental plans and priorities.
Education & Training: Masters degree in education, educational assessment, or in a health care field. DC, ND, DO, or other first professional degree in a health care field preferred
Certifications & Licenses: Active driver’s license and mode of transportation
Experience: Experience coordinating, developing, and managing clinical sites for health-related clinical programs; Experience networking and maintaining professional relationships with a variety of community stakeholders. Prior supervisory or managerial experience preferred
